Allene Patricia (Hooper) Fox Obituary (1941

Allene Patricia Hooper Fox (or "Patti" as we knew her) was born to Roy and Leta Hooper on September 24th, 1941 in Sacramento, California. Patti was preceded by twin sisters, Karen and Kathy, and it was not easy being the little sister to twins. Patti attended high school in Herlong, California and went on to community college in Susanville, California. After college, Patti worked as an auditor for the Navy in San Francisco. In 1968, Patti left California and set her sights on Alaska. Patti went to work for the railroad as an purchasing agent (and later, an expeditor) in Anchorage. Patti needed money to take a trip to Denmark to visit her friend Doris, so she took a second job as a server at a bar in Eagle River. There she met Paul Fox and in April of 1982, they were married at their home in Eagle River. Paul's brother Jim officiated over their nuptials. Patti became a member of the Sweet Adelines and sang bass. She got to travel with her acappella singing group all over the state and eventually placing at nationals. Patti was an extremely skilled quilter and began making quilts in 1988. Her handiwork at quilting was well renowned. Patti also enjoyed sewing other things like dolls, placemats, and coasters, and was great at crocheting many a potholder and blanket. In general Patti enjoyed all different kinds of crafts. She became an expert at using her embroidery machine to create works of art on quilts, clothing and other household items. Patti eventually left the railroad and went to work for the FAA in Anchorage in their procurement department. Patti spent many happy years fishing and clam digging all over Alaska. Paul was a pilot and they were able to fly to places that a lot of people never get to see. Patti and Paul also enjoyed traveling around the world to places like Hawaii, Jamaica, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. The New Zealand and Australia trip was unforgettable as they RV'd across two countries. In 1994, Patti took early retirement from the FAA and Paul retired as well, and they both moved to Herron Island in Washington state. There were no shortages of good times while they lived on the island. They enjoyed the wildlife right outside their windows, friends and family gatherings, and all the oysters and geoducks they could eat. Patti was diagnosed and beat breast cancer in 2009. Patti and Paul enjoyed their winters down in Port O'Connor, Texas, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. They enjoyed fishing for redfish and drinking rum drivers with family and friends. They visited with friends and family in other states like Oregon, California, Arizona, and Nevada on their way to Texas and again on their way back to Washington. Eventually the limited ferry schedule on the island made traveling off-island a pain, so they made the difficult decision to move back inland. They found a home in Allyn, Washington, and settled in. Patti was again diagnosed and she beat breast cancer a second time in 2011. In October of 2013, Paul suffered a stroke and Patti was instrumental in his recovery by getting him connected with the best specialists and taking him back and forth to his appointments. She stayed on top of him to do his eye exercises and to use his left side which was compromised as a result of the stroke. In April 2015, Patti and Paul went on a 28-day cruise to the Caribbean and Panama Canal. At the end of this cruise when they returned home, Patti was diagnosed with cancer once more. Patti passed peacefully from this world the morning of September 16th, 2015, in Bozeman, Montana, with family by her side. Patti left behind her husband of 33 years, Paul Fox of Allyn, WA, her sister Karen Manning of Brookings, OR, and niece Terri Lynn Heaney of Antioch, CA. Patti also had five step-children: Ernie Fox of Republic WA, Sara Swoboda of Bozeman MT, Jamie Fox of Pacifica CA, Bobbi Fox of Belgrade MT and Susan Fox of Kalispell MT. Patti is loved and missed by all who knew her, especially her family, friends and little dog Muffin. We pray that she is fishing and clam digging and drinking rum drivers in heaven with Our Lord, impatiently asking "When are they going to hurry up and get here?"
