Garry Wayne Squance
October 16, 1946 – March 15, 2025

Garry Squance was born October 16, 1946, in Vancouver, BC Canada, to Albert Squance and Elizabeth Mc Neil Squance and died on March 15, 2025, at Rainier Rehabilitation in Puyallup Washington following a stroke.

Garry was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Elizabeth Squance, brother Randy Squance in 2023 and nephew Ryan and niece Shanon. Brother Fran Pinchbeck, Rick (Cindi) Squance, and sister Alberta (Charles) Murphy all live locally and share many memorable, mischievous moments together.

He graduated from Peninsula High School and attended Bates Vocational School, studying electronics. He was drafted into the US Army infantry and served in Vietnam in 1968. Following his service, he worked at the Tacoma Smelter until it closed around 1985, became a journeyman electrician and foreman at a Lime Plant on the tide flats in Tacoma.

As a child Garry loved the outdoors, and wildlife often found a way into our home. On One occasion at Sunday school a frog appeared in the Bible and appeared as dry as a dried leaf. The missing frog was found. He loved to fish with our father in the Puget Sound and lakes in the area, which included a lake on a ranch in Canada. Fishing tournaments with dad’s brother Dodd was always an adventure and times of laughter.
Sports were always on Garry’s list of things to do, and where he formed lifelong friendships. Sports included basketball, baseball, skiing, volleyball, golf, playing cards and board games.

Garry was the son who took care of our mom, following dad’s death. Garry married Carol in 1989 and shared life, love and challenges together until her passing in 2019. They both enjoyed having friends over to watch sporting events, and particularly the Seahawks. Stray cats that appeared at their door were taken in, loved and cared for.
In later years Garry focused on his cats, reading, listening to golf matches and playing golf as often as time would allow. He loved his golf mates and entered tournaments whenever possible.

Garry was a quite bashful child, but he had a wonderful prankster personality and wonderful sense of humor with a pleasant disposition and smile for everyone. He connected to his native heritage later in life, becoming a member of the Kwikwetlem First Nation in Canada, which he considered an honor and privilege.

A celebration of life will be held at the Gig Harbor Eagles on May 4, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A family graveside service to be announced at a later date.
