Janet Vandersloot

–

Gig Harbor, Washington

It is with a heavy heart and profound love that we remember the life of Janet Marie Vandersloot, known affectionately as Jan to those who were blessed to know her. Born on October 25, 1956, in Missoula, MT, Janet was a beacon of dedication, compassion, and thoughtfulness who touched countless lives during her time with us. Her spirit made an indelible impact on this world which will not be forgotten.

Janet devoted her career to the exciting world of travel, serving as a dedicated Travel Agent at Boeing before her retirement in 2016. Her passion for exploring the world was only rivaled by her love for her family. A self-proclaimed homebody, Janet found immense joy in having her daughters, their spouses, and her new grandson all under one roof. A generous soul, she opened her heart and her home, fostering an environment where love, laughter, and warmth were always abundant. Whether it was cheering on her favorite women’s basketball teams, enjoying light hiking and visiting national parks with her husband or simply spending quality time with her loved ones, Janet's enthusiasm for life was contagious. As the famous writer, Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Janet embodied this sentiment throughout her life, always putting her family first and consistently striving to be a good person who did the right thing.

Janet spent her early life living in Missoula, Dallas and Bozeman, before moving to the Pacific Northwest where eventually Gig Harbor stole her heart. Jan and her husband of 39 years split time between Gig Harbor and Peoria, AZ, creating beautiful memories, and leaving a trail of love and kindness wherever she went. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, William Vandersloot, and her beloved daughters, Kelsey Kirk (Steven) and Courtney Vandersloot (Allie) . She also leaves behind siblings Joanne (Doug) and Jim along with her parents, Gene and Bethel Salomon, who will forever cherish the memory of their thoughtful and caring daughter. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 21st at Kwataqnuk in Polson, MT at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, themmrf.org.

To honor Janet's memory, we encourage everyone to share their favorite memories, stories, and photos on the memorial page. Janet's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and generosity. May her legacy continue to inspire us all to lead lives filled with compassion and kindness.
