Gig Harbor, Washington
Bud (Lloyd) Musselman was born on May 14, 1951, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and set off on his final sail on August 8, 2026, at the age of 75.
Bud grew up in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania in which he met Tina, his beloved wife and first mate of 54 years. Bud’s career in hospital finance allowed for the family to move around and explore the country, to Atlanta, GA, then Portland, OR, and last stop Seattle, Washington. Each location he lived created forever friendships, who provided support and love with him in his final days. After retirement he moved to Gig Harbor, Washington; a lovely harbor for the boat and home to family located close to the grandchildren.
Bud had several fulfilling hobbies. Music was one of his passions. In his teens, he played for the band, “The Satellites” who even had a local television performance. He played in several bands with each location he lived. These included church bands in Atlanta and Portland, and his final gig was with the Lineman in Seattle, WA just weeks before his diagnosis. Music was always part of his life. He played for family gatherings, singing and strumming Christmas hymns, joining the bands at each of his daughters’ weddings, and even self-recorded a few records. He taught his family about music and how it brings people together.
Boating and spending time on the water was another passion of his. In the early days, he cruised the family around in the ‘mad max’ for fun adventures of water skiing, fishing and crabbing on the east coast. When he moved out west, he captained a Tollycraft powerboat, Graceful Spirit, which included cruising the inside passage. After years of cruising, he found his true passion of sailing the Tina C. He reveled in the quiet flap of the sail, the smooth cutting of the water, the skill of knots and reading the winds/waves. He was in his element when at sea, especially when joined by first mate Tina, and boat dogs, Yuki and then Poppy.
Bud will be remembered for his friendly demeanor, calm and collected approach. He was a family man and loved his family dearly. He was known as ‘granddaddy’ to Lily and Lawson and made special bonds over Costco hot dogs, always supporting them from the sidelines in their many sports, and of course helping them gain a love of being on the water. He was a wonderful dad to Alicia and Brooke. He was a rock, a solid anchor, a quiet protector supporting them always through life. As the daughters grew up and had families, he became a friend to them, a best friend still guiding them through life. He had a love so deep for his wife Tina. Married for 54 years, they shared so many adventures and milestones.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Tina Collen Musselman; his loving children, Alicia (Chris) of Bothell, WA, Brooke (Chris) Raymond of Gig Harbor, WA, and his sister-in-law, Deb Lizardi of Bloomsburg, PA. He will be missed dearly by his 2 grandchildren, Lily and Lawson, who lovingly teased each other with the nickname of big baby.
He was predeceased by his brother, Doug Lizardi and by his parents, Betty and Lloyd Musselman and step- father, Bill Lizardi.
On the morning of the day he passed, a friend rode in the Fred Hutch Obliteride to raise funds for cancer research in honor of his friend Bud. Donations would be appreciated for glioblastoma research through Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center or the Glioblastoma Foundation.
The family will announce a celebration honoring Bud’s life at a later date.
