Michael Andrew Treit

–

Gig Harbor, Washington

Michael A. Treit, age 74, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor. He was born on November 18, 1941 in Seattle, Washington to Michael and Minnie Treit. Michael lived in Issaquah for over 40 years, graduating from Issaquah High School in 1960, where he was active in tennis, tumbling, and played in the marching band. He married Patricia M. Kennedy on July 1, 1961. Together they raised six children.

Michael studied engineering at the University of Washington before embarking on a varied career as an engineer and salesman, going on to eventually run his own small business, Treit Equipment Company. He had a deep sense of adventure, enjoying such diverse activities as flying airplanes, racing sailboats, and scuba diving. Michael loved the Puget Sound and being on the water, eventually settling down on Fox Island where he loved nothing more than sitting down by the beach with his grandkids roasting hot dogs over a crackling fire.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat and their six children, Machell (Alfons) Buchmann, Tammy Treit, Mike Treit Jr., Randy (Kim) Treit, Ryan Treit, and Kathryn (Mike) Treit along with 8 grandchildren. Michael was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, taking every opportunity to make sure others were aware of their various accomplishments, often to their chagrin.

Funeral services will be held at St. Nicholas Church on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Michael's name to Union Gospel Mission:
