Oscar Kaattari

–

Gig Harbor, Washington

Oscar Kaattari, born August 25, 1933 in Red Lodge, Montana to S. Oscar and Lillian Kaattari of Finish decent. His birth was also attended by his fraternal twin Anthony Kaattari. Oscar was called to join our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 after 80 wonderful years on this earth.

Oscar and his family moved to Longview, WA when he was in the 5th grade. His wonderful spirit was evident even then, as his Red Lodge classmates have included him in the class reunions. He and his twin spent the remainder of their youth creating lifelong friend and family ties in Longview.

He met his wife Beverly in Longview where they later married. They moved to Texas while he was serving in the Air Force. After his service, he began work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Machinist in Bremerton, WA. He and his beloved wife Beverly lived in Gig Harbor, WA for many years sharing their love of life with their three children, Monica, Bryan, and Diana until her sudden passing in 1984.

He met his current wife Barbara through mutual friends and they married in 1985. He moved to Shelton, WA and lived in the current home until his passing. He loved to tinker in his garage and caring for his pets.

Oscar was very proud of his Finish Heritage. He spent several years driving to Seattle learning the Finish language. He practiced speaking with his mother, and was fluent enough to communicate with his relatives during his visit to Finland. He then came home and built a Finish Sauna off his back porch. Meeting Oscar would include learning he was of Finish decent.

Oscars love of his Grandchildren, Amanda, Brianna, James, Alicia, Kelvin, Brynden, and Tyler was evident in his face each time they came to visit. He was thrilled to visit Amanda at her school on Grandparents day each year!

He shared his love of pets with his daughters Monica and Diana, and granddaughter Brianna. His love of cats was especially shared with his granddaughter Amanda. He had multiple cats and a few dogs in his lifetime. The most memorable to him was his kitten companion Mokie, who was able to comfort him during his last days.

He and Barbara belonged to the Tramper Sams Club and would camp out with them as often as they could. He traveled to Canada and built some strong family ties. Many of his cross country trips included stops in Red Lodge, MT. He enjoyed National Parks and History.

Oscar was very involved in his church life, Faith Lutheran Church, and was a steward in many ways. He was a willing hand whenever asked and loved everyone he met. His walk with the Lord was strong.

You could often times find him sitting in his favorite chair, with one of his cats in his lap, listening to classical music, working a crossword. Occasionally he could be found on his computer playing solitaire.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents S. Oscar and Lillian Kaattari; wife, R. Beverly (Buckley) Kaattari; Fraternal Twin brother Anthony Kaattari; and paternal sister Pearl Kaattari;
